about

Written back when I was in high school, I believe this was originally written to be on "I'll Cut My Head Off and Run With It." This song was actually written about the same girl as much of these others. Just written about the first time that I lost her. I just thought it was interesting to hear what younger me had to say about a very similar situation; plus I liked the song's skeleton and had this cool idea to amp it up with a fat bass line and some cool electronic drums. (You can find the original demo on the "Unwanted Material" collection.)

lyrics

We recorded an album on my bedroom floor
we spent the nights with wine, we were in and out doors
exploring the taste of our new life
I kiss you on the mouth, you keep me wide awake
but when the summer ended you called it a mistake,
and left me sleeping in the Cadillac

and I found a girl, maybe 1 or 2 but no one could
quite replace you, so I lay in the yard until I wish on stars
that someone would come my way -

I love how ugly you are,
I love how bitter you are
I'd drink myself to sleep if I fit my bed
but I guess I don't
I'll take the couch instead
